The Three N's
In advanced art courses, assessment shifts toward conceptual depth, originality, and artistic voice. Students are evaluated on their ability to develop meaningful ideas, create innovative work, and communicate visually with intention and sophistication.

NUANCE
The artwork demonstrates depth, subtlety, and thoughtful decision-making. Nuance is shown through sophisticated use of compostition, symbolism, technique, concept development, and visual relationships

NOVELTY
The artwork presents fresh, inventive, or highly personal ideas and approaches. Novelty reflects originality, experimentation, and the student's ability to move beyond cliches or familiar solutions.

The artwork presents fresh, inventive, or highly personal ideas and approaches. Novelty reflects originality, experimentation, and the student's ability to move beyond cliches or familiar solutions.
The Three C's
In beginning art courses, students are assessed on foundational artistic skills and habits. Grading emphasizes understanding artistic concepts, developing creative confidence, and demonstrating care in the creation of artwork.

COMPREHENSION
The student demonstrates understanding of the assignment, artistic concepts, material, and techniques. The includes follwing directions, applying learned skills, and showing growth in the visual problem solving

CREATIVITY
The student explores original idea, takes artistic risks, and develops personal expression. Creativity includes experimentation, imagination, and moving beyond copied or predictable solutions
CRAFTSMANSHIP
The student shows care, effort, and technical control in the creation and presentation of artwork. Craftsmanship includes attention to detail, proper use of materials, and overall quality of executions
